Boracay's Two Main Seasons
Boracay's climate is governed by two monsoon seasons that shape everything from beach conditions to hotel prices. Understanding the difference between Amihan (northeast monsoon) and Habagat (southwest monsoon) is essential for planning the perfect trip.
Amihan Season: November to May (Dry Season)
This is widely considered the best time to visit Boracay. The Amihan season brings steady northeast winds, clear skies, calm seas, and ideal swimming conditions. Temperatures range from 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F) with low humidity.
White Beach is at its most beautiful during this period — the water is crystal clear, and the sand is pristine. Peak season runs from December through April, when the island sees its highest visitor numbers, particularly during Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week (Semana Santa). Book accommodations well in advance if visiting during these periods, as prices can triple and rooms sell out months ahead.
February and March offer a sweet spot — still excellent weather but fewer crowds than December–January and significantly lower prices than peak holiday weeks.
Habagat Season: June to October (Wet Season)
The southwest monsoon brings stronger winds, larger waves, and occasional rain showers. White Beach can experience rougher conditions, though it remains visually stunning even under cloudy skies. The upside? Hotel rates drop by 30–50%, crowds thin considerably, and you'll often have the beach almost to yourself.
During Habagat, the wind and waves shift to White Beach (west-facing), but Bulabog Beach on the east side becomes calm and protected — making it prime kitesurfing season. World-class kite boarders flock to Bulabog Beach during June–September, and lessons and equipment rental are widely available.
Typhoons are a risk between July and October. While Boracay is geographically positioned to receive less direct typhoon impact than other Philippine islands, it's wise to check forecasts before traveling and consider travel insurance.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
November–December: Transitioning into dry season. Early December sees some rain but conditions improve rapidly. Christmas week is extremely busy.
January–February: Prime conditions with calm seas and clear skies. February is arguably the best month — great weather, fewer crowds, reasonable prices.
March–April: Excellent conditions. Holy Week brings Filipino domestic tourists in huge numbers.
May: Late Amihan — still good weather but heat intensifies. A great shoulder season.
June–August: Wet season begins. Good for budget travelers and kite surfers. Expect afternoon showers.
September–October: Most rainfall and strongest typhoon risk. The quietest (and cheapest) period.
Special Events to Plan Around
The Boracay International Dragon Boat Race typically takes place in February, drawing teams from across Asia and creating a festive atmosphere. The Funboard Cup and other kitesurfing competitions are held annually during the Habagat season. New Year's Eve on White Beach is legendary — a massive outdoor celebration with fireworks and beach parties that attracts tens of thousands of revelers.
